A Fresh Anointing
By Peter Crause
Psa 92:10 But my horn shall
you exalt like the horn of
an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.
“Oh for a new anointing,
Oh for a heavenly flame,
Oh for a new anointing to
magnify thy Name.
Oh from sin and self to
cease,
Oh for a sense of inward
peace,
Oh for Thy Glory to increase,
Jesus anoint me now!”
Sometimes in our walk in the
world with its defilement and allure, we begin to “dry up.” It seems such a
chore to serve the Lord. “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” is our
experience. We may be tempted to throw in the proverbial towel. We face
discouragements! The fiery trials never
seem to end! We feel the Lord has abandoned us! The “accuser of the brethren”
whispers defeat and failure in your ear. From the very depths of your being you
cry out “HELP!”
The Psalmist faced many
enemies and I’m sure faced the same pressures we do. The enemy is the same; but
praises to our Lord – Jesus Christ the
same yesterday, today and forever!
David says his strength will
rise and he will be anointed with fresh
oil.
I think we all understand
that oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. The anointing with oil symbolized being anointed with the power of the
Holy Spirit. It also symbolized being set apart for a service to the Lord.
David had been anointed to be king of Israel by Samuel as a lad. He loved and
depended on that anointing. Just read the things he accomplished with that
anointing. But it seems he too reached the stage of drying up. The stress and pressures of the secular had done its
damage.
I shall be anointed with fresh oil!
John 1:33 Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and
remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost.
Go to the source! Go to the fount of life. Go
to the “rock that is higher than I!”(Psalm
61:2) Go to Him who promised never
to leave you nor forsake you.(Heb 13:5) Go to the lover of your soul! Go to the
great baptizer. As you wait upon the Lord you
will be anointed with fresh oil!
Isa 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall
mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and
not faint.
Oh for a new anointing. Teach
us Lord to wait upon you! Great baptizer, anoint us afresh with your Holy
Spirit! Amen!
